How Niagara Falls, NY Became the “Honeymoon Capital of the World”

Niagara Falls is a popular tourist destination located at the border between Niagara Falls, New York, and Canada. It has been known as the honeymoon capital since President Burr’s daughter and her husband, Theodosia and Joseph Alston chose it as their honeymoon getaway nearly 200 years ago.

Certainly, there are others now on the other side of the Mississippi River, but Niagara Falls is still a classic honeymoon destination. More than 50,000 honeymooners make Niagara Falls their honeymoon destination of choice each year. What’s more, you won’t need dozens of servants and pack horses to enjoy the trip.

An Exciting Helicopter Tour for the Newlyweds

A helicopter tour of Niagara Falls will provide a unique experience of all the views of the falls. The tour includes many views of Bridal Veil Falls, American Falls, Cave of the Winds, Maid of the Mist, and more. There is likely no better means of viewing the falls than from a helicopter with the pilot narrating your journey.

Where to Eat

Top of the Falls

After the helicopter ride and visiting museums, bring your appetite to Top of the Falls restaurant. It claims to be “the only restaurant overlooking Niagara Falls.” What’s more, with floor-to-ceiling windows throughout the venue, you can’t miss the Horseshoe Falls or the opportunity for a couple’s selfie to post on Facebook or Instagram.

The restaurant is located on Goat Island and provides views from the American side of the falls before your food is served. While you’re eating, have one of the staff take your picture with the falls in the background. It’s an epic memory for your wedding album.

The Niagara Trolley

Once you complete your meal, you may feel tired from all the walking during your honeymoon. Take the Niagara Trolley, a scenic trolley ride around Niagara Falls to rest your legs, taking in the breathtaking scenery.

You can enjoy the convenience of viewing the falls at your leisure with a day ticket that allows hop-on, hop-off service for a small fee. However, the Discover Niagara Shuttle, which starts up again on 28 May, is free.

The Niagara Falls Wine Trail

After the trolley ride, visit the Niagara Wine Trail. Explore the vineyard while tasting some wine, meat, and cider during your visit. Truly an iconic adventure. Niagara wineries offer taste-testing tours that feature ice wines, late harvest, and native wines to tempt your palate.

Be sure to check out the festivals during your honeymoon so your partner and you can enjoy exploring. Some festivals lined up at Niagara Falls include the Niagara Falls Elvis Festival, Niagara USA Wine Festival, and the Pelham Art Festival.

When night falls, it’s a perfect time to get back out on the town and explore the nightlife. There are several amusement park rides in Niagara Falls to include the sky screamer and zombie attack.

Don’t forget to grab a poncho and take a couple of selfies at Cave of the Winds, located at Niagara Falls State Park. The deck allows you to stand twenty feet above the falls. The falls provide a romantic experience to spend quality time together. If you are looking to get even closer to the falls, the Maid of the Mist boat tour will bring you right to the base of all three falls. The boat can hold 600 people and allow you to get great photos of the waterfalls.
