Woman quotes bible verses on second date

They say “reading is fundamental,” well that appears to be an understatement after a woman misunderstood the meaning of “bibliophile” on her second date.

A now-viral Reddit post published on March 27th, reported by Amanda Spence from Newsweek, has racked up more than 16,000 upvotes and 689 comments.

The original poster retold the story of bringing her bible on the date and quoting from the book of Peter after her date leaned in for a kiss.

After the initial verse garners a laugh, she decides to recite another verse, this time Samuel 12:24, “‘only fear the Lord and serve him faithfully…’” And when she failed to remember the entire verse, she pulled out the bible and proceeded to search for the text.

Luckily, her date, who appeared to have a great sense of humor, informed her of the true definition of the word bibliophile.

Bibliophile (noun) | ˈbiblēəˌfīl |: a person who collects or has a great love of books.

Certain demographics appear to read less than others

A 2021 survey conducted by Pew Research Center concluded that approximately 23% of American adults claim that they have not read a book in the past year.

According to the survey, adults who have a bachelor’s or other advanced degree are more likely to report reading books than adults with a high school diploma.

And while the information gathered in the survey indicates that the number of adults not reading books may fluctuate from year to year, the majority of the population, a whopping 77% in fact, appear to be book-readers.

As for the author of the viral Reddit, the bible-verse reading stunt seemed to make for a memorable evening. Her date “found it cute” that she tried to “amuse her,” said the poster.

Commenters on the thread also snuck in a few laughs at the expense of this dating humor story. “That is where I am going wrong! I keep trying to seal the deal with Ezekiel 23:20. It is just not the mood setter you’d think it would be,” a Redditor quipped.

What do you think? Should the poster have Googled bibliophile before the date? Or did she score extra cool points for her hilarious misunderstanding?
