What is Title 42 and why was it enforced?
Since its invocation in March 2020 by President Donald Trump to stem the flow of migrants into the United States, Title 42 of the United States Code has been more highly publicized than in the previous 75 years since its passage in 1944. An order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the watch of President Trump, commonly referred to as the “Title 42 Order,” ordered the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to use the obscure law in response to the COVID pandemic in an effort to prevent migrants from affected countries from entering the United States.
