There’s a way B&B can merge the present with the past with Michael Corbett, Evan, and David.
B&B Spoilers indicated there was more to Judge Evan Scott than met the eye. Now, we know the truth — he and Deacon were old pals, and the crafty judge bent the rules a bit to make sure that Sheila, whom Deacon cares for, got to walk on a technicality when it looked like she was going to jail forever!
B&B Spoilers: Just Who Is Evan?
Is there even more to be learned about Evan? It’s quite possible there is! Soap Hub chatted with Michael Corbett about reprising the role of Judge Evan Scott and how he and Deacon (Sean Kanan) knew each other. “All I really knew is that [Evan] was going to develop from his first appearance,” Corbett tells Soap Hub. “Every time I open a script, I’m learning, too. I had a theory that I was going to be an old friend of Sheila’s somehow. I thought, ‘Okay. Evan is doing this for Sheila.’ Maybe our characters had gone to school together and/or had had a romance?”
From Genoa City to Las Vegas?
It turned out that Evan and Deacon are old pals who knew each other back when Deacon ran the Lair in Las Vegas. “We both got into some trouble back then,” Corbett shares in character. “He bailed me out, and I owed him. We owed each other.”
What we don’t know is what Evan did before he came to the Lair. Is it possible that he had arrived in Las Vegas as a man who wanted desperately to change his identity? What if Evan is, in reality, David Kimball, who was last seen trying to get out of a trash compactor in Genoa City after the dastardly dude committed heinous crimes on Young and the Restless?
B&B Spoilers: When David Met Sheila
Actually, David and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) — despite being in Genoa City at the same time about 32 years ago — never crossed paths. That would explain, if Evan really is David, why she wouldn’t have recognized him. Corbett’s not saying that Evan is for certain David, but he’s also saying that there are periods of unaccounted time in his life. “I like that there are no through lines in the characters I play,” says Corbett, referring to his other soap opera bad boy roles of Michael on Ryan’s Hope and Warren on Search for Tomorrow. “I never think of [my characters] being evil or villains. They always have goals in mind.”
Nina and David Together Again
It’d be ironic — or perhaps intentional — if Evan did turn out to be David as the woman he romanced for her millions, Nina Webster (Tricia Cast), resides in Los Angeles, B&B’s locale. “‘Evan Scott’ could have been a nom de plume,” shrugs Corbett. “That’s the beauty of a soap opera. That’s how I’ve felt since Ryan’s Hope. I can’t wait till I open a script. I love all the characters I play.”
Whether B&B has a David/Nina reunion in mind is unknown. However, the stage is set if the show wants to go down that path. “Wouldn’t that be an amazing crossover?” Corbett theorizes about David and Nina reconnecting after all these years. If they do, Nina could be shocked to discover that she’s still wed to the con artist. “From what I understand from a marital lawyer is that, yes, they are still married,” Corbett offers. “She probably had to have David declared dead [after he fell into the trash compactor], but when the person isn’t dead, then you’re still married!”
