Even before Mac Scorpio became Cody Bell’s dad on General Hospital, John J. York was a dad both on and off-camera. In real life, the actor’s a doting dad and granddad. On-screen, as Mac, he’s been a surrogate dad to Robin, Maxie, and the late Georgie. So, who better than York to come to Soap Hub for a Fireside Chat in honor of Father’s Day.

John J. York: Port Charles’s Father of the Year

John J. York joined GH in 1991 as Malcolm “Mac” Scorpio, the estranged brother of Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers). The two brothers shared a tumultuous relationship but soon smoothed things over. After Robert’s death, Mac stepped in as surrogate dad to Robert and Anna’s (Finola Hughes) daughter Robin (Kimberly McCullough).

Mac Scorpio’s Love Life

Over the years, Mac was paired romantically with Dominique Stanton (with whom he apparently fathered Cody, played by Josh Kelly). He also had romances with Jenny Eckert (Cheryl Richardson) and the late Katherine Bell (Mary Beth Evans). His best pal is Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom).

Mac’s true love has been his wife, Felicia (Kristina Wagner). Mac stepped up and helped raise Felicia’s daughters Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and the late Georgie (Lindze Letherman). Felicia’s lingering feelings for Frisco (Jack Wagner) always seemed to stand in the way of her fully committing to Mac. At the 2013 Nurses Ball, Felicia made her choice — she opted to proclaim her love for Mac despite Frisco serenading her at the ball.

John J. York: Nurses Ball Talent

Mac has performed at the Nurses Ball, too. He did a memorable ventriloquist act with his partner Mr. Marbles! He’s worked on and off for the Port Charles Police Department. Currently, he serves as Port Charles’s Chief of Detectives. Earlier this year, Mac delivered a fatal bullet to Kevin’s psychotic twin Ryan Chamberlin (also played by Lindstrom).
