In previous stories, I've been vocal about the fact that, as a longtime Elgin resident, I believe the city needs to step up its game when it comes to dining out, or even, takeout.

But, I'm the first to say that perhaps I was mistaken as, after a bit of exploration, I've learned that this sprawling city forty miles from Chicago plays host to some pretty enticing eateries.

Naturally, when we reference "the best" restaurants in Elgin, IL these can vary depending on your taste and preferences, but here are some popular options that offer a range of cuisines:

Martini Room, 101 East Chicago Street: This trendy spot is known for its creative cocktails, like the "Birthday Cake Martini" and a diverse menu that includes small plates, sushi, and more. It's a great place to hang out with friends. They feature live music on Fridays and even, burlesque and drag shows. Prepare to be awed by both the cocktails and the entertainment.

Elgin Public House, 219 East Chicago Avenue: A local favorite, the cozy, Elgin Public House offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere along with a menu featuring classic American comfort food and a variety of craft beers.

El Faro Mexican Restaurant, 9 North State Street: Craving Mexican cuisine? Then check out this cozy spot known for its flavorful dishes and generous portions. Their menu includes a wide range of Mexican classics.

Al's Cafe & Creamery, 42 DuPage Court: Visit this local favorite situated in a quaint, 1892 building, and enjoy classic yet creative, American cooking and old-fashioned ice cream treats.

Danny's Pizza, 231 Douglas Avenue: Who in Elgin doesn't love Danny's? If you're in the mood for pizza, Danny's is a popular choice. They offer a variety of pizza styles and toppings to satisfy your cravings.

Pita BBQ, 1900 South McDonald Road, South Elgin: Fresh falafels, shawarma, kabobs, and more. Everything you'd expect from an eatery specializing in Middle Easter food. Dine-in or curbside pickup.

Grumpy Goat Tavern, 875 Sports Way: You'll be assured of a beautiful view at this popular spot known for its Scottish flair. Located at the Highlands of Elgin Golf Course, Grumpy Goat offers a menu of primarily American fare with a focus on burgers and other sandwiches, plus steaks, chops, and seafood. Grumpy's also serves up Italian classics like Chicken Saltimbocca. The scenic view of the golf course adds to the dining experience. You'll also find an extensive collection of whiskeys and bourbons.
