New trend in K-Beauty has skincare lovers singing its praises.
You gotta love the masterminds behind the wildly popular K-Beauty products, which have revolutionized the way we women — and men, as well — care for our skin.
A while back I wrote about “glass skin.” This multi-step skincare routine is supposed to impart a complexion so poreless and translucent, it looks like glass.
Now, there’s “slugging,” which is applying an occlusive layer of schmear all over your face, as the last step in your nightly skincare routine.
Here's how I go about "slugging."
First, I do the "double-cleanse," another K-Beauty staple. I remove my makeup with a cleaning oil or straight-up coconut oil and a cotton pad, followed by my regular cleanser of choice.
Next, I apply an "essence" which is supposed to prepare the skin for everything that follows. (By the way, the rule of thumb when layering skincare products is thin-to-heavy.)
My next step is a serum, either Vitamin C, Niacinamide, or Hyaluronic-based. Depending upon whether you're looking to firm, tone or plump your skin, you're going to need one of these.
After applying my serum, I layer on a moisturizer. There are several in my rotation but I'm currently using CeraVe.
Now comes the "slugging!"
After moisturizing, I apply a thick cream or ointment like Aquaphor, Nivea Creme, or even Vaseline over it, to lock all the good stuff in. And yes, you will resemble a “slimy slug.”
I’ve tried it and like it. In the morning, my skin is moist and glowy.
Don't forget to cover your pillow with a towel. You’ll need it.
Give it a try and let me know what you think. And as always, thanks for reading.
