DETROIT, MI - BuyDetroit recently hosted its first in-person matchmaking event called Meet the Buyer and gathered over 100 companies. This event was held in Detroit’s Beacon Park where local suppliers opened up booths to secure connections with top buyers.

BuyDetroit is a program initiated by The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC) and Detroit Means Business and aims to create employment opportunities, boost access and inclusion, raise local business capacity, and cultivate Detroit’s economy.

The program brings those involved in the supply chain sector together, from buyers, suppliers, to contractors through Meet The Buyers.

Meet the Buyers successfully engaged local businesses from various industries including those in education, manufacturing, cleaning and maintenance, professional service, healthcare, IT, and construction, and among the corporate buyers are well-known companies and institutions.

As a result of bridging the connection between Detroit’s largest firms and local suppliers, procurement officers were able to evaluate pre-qualified local suppliers right away which allowed them to get to know these businesses further.

Those who were selected during this phase will continue to be assessed by the advisors to see if they live up to the buyer’s standards and then they will participate in the “Pitch the Buyer” event in November.

This event itself is a manifestation of what BuyDetroit constantly strives for. They open the door of over $2 billion in procurement opportunities to Detroit's small to medium-sized businesses and facilitate them with programs to enhance their development and technical capabilities. ButDetroit provides a one-stop solution for local businesses, and it has captivated hundreds of local suppliers and buyers to register in their online portal.

The event was also made possible due to the collaboration with Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council, Pure Michigan Business Connect, Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Great Lakes Women’s Business Council, and Beacon Park.
