I approached Tabitha Phillips, or as Newton would call her, his Human Servant to see if they would be interested in allowing me to do a piece about him. I told her, “I approached her initially because I know that Newton would hate the idea."
She said, “You are so right. He would hate it. Which is precisely why you should do it!” If Denton County had their version of Grumpy Cat, they would find him stealing toys and treats from kittens in Highland Village. Newton would win "grumpiest" paws down.
In every photo I have seen him in, he is somewhere on the range of annoyed, irked, or exasperated. Although Newton has a wonderful family, full of love, one would think Newton feels they are only there to serve him. When he is pictured with his siblings there is a look of utter disgust and dismay. Poor Nugget and Booter just want to play with their fellow feline brother! Duke, the dog, just wants a cuddle.
Although he doesn’t appreciate his mama like his human brothers, he tolerates his dad who is occasionally allowed to pet him. They have to work two jobs to keep Newton in toys, treats, and wet food. Newton only lives the best life and has a discerning palette.
When I said, “He is adorable! What breed is he? How old is he? Please tell me everything a Crazy Cat Lady needs to know.” Tabitha was sweet enough to indulge my curiosities. She told me that he is a manly, yet sassy, thirteen pounds of solid fur. He doesn’t like to be groomed and is reportedly too prissy to clean himself, so they have to shave him often. He is quite a little mess. He is a Persian and he knows it. He exercises his cattitude by not being very friendly. He isn’t impressed by people. He is currently seven, but he has a birthday around the corner. Please do not expect an invitation to the party.
Christmas, it is only appropriate that he be dressed as The Grinch during the holidays. He has quite the wardrobe and likes to show off on the catwalk. The extra special thing is that his nickname is Grinchy!
I would say that I hope he likes this, but I know he will hate it because Newton hates everything.
I would like to make a special thank you to Tabitha Phillips for indulging a fellow cat person and bringing joy to Denton County.
