Women's Basketball League Trailblazer Susan Summons Offers a Dose of Inspiration on International Women's Day

Given the current crises of the day, a dose of International Women's Day inspiration couldn't come at a better time. Susan Summons aka 'The Motivational Doc,' offered oodles during her appearance this month on Michael Hootner’s Sports Deli Podcast The Retired Miami Dade College Women's Basketball Coach and Current Motivational Speaker joined Michael aka ‘Hoot’ for an incredible conversation that took them back in time to 1957 Roxbury, Massachusetts, to present-day Miami, Florida.

‘During these 65 years, Susan has exemplified extraordinary in every endeavor she has ever partaken in from the time she was playing against the boys on the streets in Boston to her military days in the United States Army to her playing days at Roxbury Community College to Lamar University where she became one of the trailblazers of the Original “W,” the WBL, the Women’s Basketball League.

Her passion and light have shined down on and through people for her entire life, especially the young women at Roxbury Community College and Miami Dade Community College where she served as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach and Associate Professor for nearly 40 years and she continues to inspire people all around the world as a motivational speaker.'

Since her recent retirement from Miami Dade College as Women’s Basketball Coach, Summons has been making the rounds on various regional and national podcasts. She says the conversation with Hoot was something special.

‘Hoot is an outstanding and entertaining broadcaster. His amazing hosts and guests discuss the intersection between race and sports, leadership, equality, mental health, social injustice. I was honored to be a guest on his show and share a dose of inspiration and motivation with his audience,’ said Summons.

As we celebrate International Women’s Day and Women's History Month. I would like to acknowledge the achievements of all the amazing women around the globe who have set the path and continue to blaze trails, said Summons.’
