Fried chicken sandwiches are the rave, and even more so since the Popeyes uproar. You can find new spots cooking up these spicy handhelds continuously emerging in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) region, but they are mostly found in more urban neighborhoods and cities. However, Roaming Roosters has taken the leap and ventured into the suburbs, including the suburb of Burke, VA. They opened the doors to their brick and mortar in Burke, VA in April 2022.
From food truck to multiple restaurants.
Roaming Rooster is a black-owned business which first started off in 2015 by way of a food truck and quickly grew due to the family's passion, hard-work, and help of social media.
What makes these sandwiches so special?
Hands down my favorite sandwich is the Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich. With each bite you will find honey butter oozing its way through, and together with the cheddar cheese, the flavors merry together oh so nicely. In addition to this sandwich, you will find The Club which includes bacon, The Buffalo with blue cheese, and the OG Nashville with house made vinaigrette slaw and pickles. Each sandwich is stacked with two pieces of fried buttermilk chicken and you can choose your own heat level from Mild all the wall to Extra Hot/Inferno. With the four levels of heat you can choose from, I got the Medium which was much hotter than I expected, but still bearable.
Now this meal is not technically one of the healthiest meal choices, but is a great treat meal. However, if it makes those that are health conscious feel any better, they do pride themselves on getting quality ingredients and the chicken is free-range, grass-fed, and antibiotic-free.
But wait, is there more?
Yes. Some locations have milkshakes and frozen custards; so if you have a taste for one of these and want the road trip, you can venture off to the Skyland and Bladensburg locations.
They have seven locations in the DMV and details can be found here.
The Burke, VA location is located within the Rolling Valley Shopping Center.
