Universal Themes of Immigration and Belonging

Sandra Delgado, the talented author of the highly acclaimed play "La Havana Madrid," recently opened up about the inspiration behind her work and its relevance to audiences. This masterpiece was initially slated as an integral part of a triptych. It was first introduced in 2016. Delgado believes that despite being set in Chicago, the play conveys a universal theme that resonates with the experiences of immigrants, both first and second generations. She says of performing in Orange County,

"Yes, it takes place in Chicago, but I really believe it's universal. So many of us are immigrants...people will see familiar things. This is the story of our parents and grandparents and great-grandparents. Or even ourselves."

La Havana Madrid aims to connect with audiences deeper by delving into relatable experiences and telling the stories of our ancestors and ourselves. Delgado hopes that the play will inspire people to share their stories, reflect on their historical place, and ask their family members questions, thus creating a sense of belonging and understanding that transcends cultural boundaries.
