The West Coast Wanderers Take A Trip From Aliso Viejo to Six Flags

We are a family of four from Aliso Viejo, but only three of us piled into the car that Sunday. We headed to Six Flags to celebrate our daughter's 13th birthday.

Living in Aliso Viejo has its perks. One of them is that Six Flags Magic Mountain is only about an hour and a half away, as long as you're on the road before traffic gets heavy.

We used Six Flags' military discount to purchase our daughter's season pass online at this link. This allowed us to save time & skip the ticket line at the park.

Please note: You must be registered with ID.me to utilize this discount. Active Duty Military, Veterans, and First responders are all eligible for discounted tickets.

We felt like real live A-list celebrities as we flashed our season passes and walked past the ticket gates into the park. Having a season pass & an all-season Flash Pass is like having VIP tickets at every concert you attend for a year.

The park was already coming alive, despite not having been open for even 30 minutes. Yes, it sounds ridiculous to say out loud, but people line up to enter the park before the parking tellers are even available. Because of this, it's best to get there as early in the morning as possible.

When entering the park, keep a lookout for the scrolling boards which indicate the wait times for each ride. These can be useful in planning which order to visit rides, especially if you opt not to purchase a season pass. Watch the clip below, recorded during our May 7, 2023 visit, to see what a Wait Times board looks like in Six Flags.

Once inside, we made a beeline for Goliath, our first coaster of the day. Goliath is a giant steel coaster that promised to take us on an exhilarating ride over the park.

As we took off at 85 mph, the wind whipped against our faces, sending an adrenaline rush through our bodies as we faced a terrifying 255-foot drop. It was everything we had hoped for.

Why Its Best to Buy a Six Flags Season Pass

Amusement parks can be expensive to visit. If you're a fan, then you know this well.

However, if you live in or near Aliso Viejo, & want to be a frequent visitor of Six Flags Magic Mountain, investing in a season pass & an all-season Flash Pass is smart. While the upfront cost may seem high, the savings are evident when compared to purchasing single-day tickets.

Having a season pass has many benefits. First, you can visit the park as often as you like without worrying about the cost of admission. This means you can enjoy the rides and attractions whenever you feel like it without worrying about breaking the bank.

Do unexpected expenses have you strapped for cash? A season pass grants you full access to the park, including general parking, throughout the year. In addition, there are no blackout dates. So, even if you're low on funds, you still have access to a miniature local adventure.

You might stumble across hidden gems within the park that you didn't know about before. The best part? A season pass pays for itself in just two annual visits!

With the season pass, you'll also have unlimited access to the park's events and activities throughout the year. There's always something happening, from live music to on-the-spot contests and giveaways.

Six Flags Viva La Fiesta is an example of a seasonal Six Flags event to celebrate traditions from North and Latin America. The celebration includes festive foods, music, and entertainment. The event runs on Saturdays & Sundays, May 13 - June 11.

The constant rotation of park events is sure to provide entertainment for everyone. Do not let the upfront cost scare you away. In the long run, investing in a season pass is an investment in fun and memories that will last a lifetime.

About Six Flags Flash Passes

Heading to an amusement park can be both exciting and nerve-racking. The smell of cotton candy and the screams of thrill-seekers. What could be better?

Well, not waiting in the hot sun for hours, that's for sure. But, let's face it, enjoying all the rides is impossible when you're too busy worrying about how long the lines are. At least we can bond with our fellow line waiters over our shared misery, right...? Wrong!

That's where the Flash Pass comes in! The Flash Pass is a virtual pass. It allows you to ride the rides without "physically waiting" for hours in long lines.

Unlike traditional physical passes, this pass is now an app that can be accessed on your phone. The app enables you to book only one ride at a time. In addition, it will alert you when it's time for you to access the fast pass entrance.

The Flash Pass entrances are usually located at the ride's exit. It takes you through a complex path of stairs and tunnels.

These are typically located beneath the rides, giving you an "under the scenes" look at Six Flags rides. When you reach the front of the line, you may take your place in any of the lanes. Then, enjoy the ride!

As a heads up, the Flash Pass app may appear challenging to use initially. However, with time and practice, it becomes easy and convenient. The app also provides an estimated wait time, which can help you plan your day more efficiently.

It is also important to note that purchasing a Flash Pass previously meant renting a watch to be worn around the park. It was used to reserve your next ride. This was the only way to avoid the long lines at Six Flags. However, losing your assigned watch would cost you $70, which is pretty steep.

The Flash Pass app eliminates the need for extra fees or the worry of losing anything (unless it's your phone.) The app is simple to access. With a few taps, you can quickly reserve your spot in line. (Unfortunately, those who lose their phone on a ride have more significant issues to worry about.)

The park now offers Regular, Gold, and Platinum Flash Pass options.

The Regular Flash Pass costs $80 to add to a single-day ticket. There are no "all season" Regular Flash Passes. The Regular Flash Pass enables you to bypass the physical act of "waiting in line."

This is an innovative experience for those who cannot tolerate the physical act of standing in lengthy lines. However, it ultimately means you still wait the same amount of time. You cannot use the flash pass entrance until your wait time ends. Are you saving anything besides a free all-day workout for your legs?

The Gold Flash Pass costs $105 to add to a single-day ticket. The all-season Gold Flash Pass is $329.00 (just over three visits and the price is recouped).

The Gold Flash Pass is perfect if you prefer to cut your wait time by 50%. Once you receive a notification, you can enter the flash pass entrance in half the time.

If you're willing to spend extra money for maximum comfort, the Platinum Flash Pass should be your choice. The Platinum flash pass allows you to skip 90% of the line and hop on rides almost immediately. It costs $190 to add to a single-day ticket.

The all-season Platinum Flash Pass costs $499. The price of three single-day tickets with Flash Pass add-ons is high. Purchasing the season pass can "recoup" the equivalent of two single-day tickets with add-on Flash Passes.

I know what you must think: "The Platinum option is so expensive!" While that may be true, my friends, it's all about convenience. You might be tempted to save some cash and skip the Platinum Flash Pass.

But let me tell you, my penny-pinching pals, this is not the time to be tight-fisted. When you're zipping past those long lines like a boss with the Platinum pass, you'll be thankful you won't have to waste your precious time waiting in line for hours. Instead, you will have plenty of time to grab a corn dog, or two, or even ten.

So splurge a little on the Platinum pass. Your inner adrenaline junkie will thank you.

Cost Comparison: Single-Day Tickets vs. a Season Pass

At first glance, a season pass may seem too large of an investment. Comparing the cost of a season pass to the price of a single-day ticket reveals that it offers more value.

For example, a one-day ticket can be purchased online for $64.99 (or at the gate for $119.99, yikes).

This does not include the cost of parking. Parking on-site costs an additional $40, making the visit total $104.99 before you even step into the park.

The Gold Pass is the lowest-level season pass. It costs $99.99 and includes unlimited visits to Six Flags Magic Mountain until September 4, 2023. It also includes general parking. Additionally, Six Flags frequently offers discounts, such as their current promotion, which upgrades any Gold Pass to a Platinum Pass.

The Platinum Pass allows the pass-holder unlimited visits for all of 2023, including endless visits to Hurricane Harbor, LA. Furthermore, this pass includes a 15% discount on food and merchandise. It also includes General Parking for each visit. Plus, you get one skip-the-line pass and two specialty rate tickets.
