Part 2 Flounder Pounder Trip - Sea Bass Limit off shore of VA Beach
This is part 2 of that engineer buddy flounder pounder trip. We finished out the day with a 4 man limit of seabass after catching our Limit of flounder! Wreck fishing off shore of Virginia beach is a lot of fun and a great way to fill a freezer! Grab a local charter if you don't have a capable boat and get out there. There are a lot of great small charters in VA Beach that specialize in this kind of fishing. (Including ours) Join one and have your own offshore adventure.

Evan and I visit a small neighborhood lake right down the road from our home, just outside of Richmond and pound some nice crappie! We got a stringer full in just a couple hours. If you can locate a small lake like this that you can get on, you'll typically do very well with Crappie and even bass. They usually have light fishing pressure and a LOT of fish. Some of these encourage you to keep your catch, others like you to release everything so make sure you know the rules, so you get invited back.

Shad fishing - Downtown Richmond, VA
The shad fishing continues with this evening trip in downtown Richmond. We put in at Ancarrows Landing and fished just downstream of the I95 bridge. The bite is on, and this is a fun way to spend an afternoon. It tends to get crowded on the weekend once the word get's out so if you can slip down after work and fish until dark, you'll have less traffic on the river. Shad, Sometimes called "River Herring" come in two subspecies during this run. Hickory Shad, and the larger American Shad. Both think they are Tarpon and fight very well with some exciting jumps mixed in.

Shad fishing with my buddy Steve Taylor and his son Will. We got into a nice bunch of them right in downtown Richmond. This "right of spring" tradition goes back 100 years in Richmond and is a very popular fishery. The best time to go is on a weekday afternoon to avoid big crowds.

Trophy Spadefish at the Chesapeake Light Tower off VA beach
Come along as we catch a limit of trophy spadefish offshore of Virginia Beach at the Chesapeake light tower. These are the hardest fighting fish pound for pound in the area. They are great eating and challenging to catch. Spadefish fight extremely hard and have small hard mouths. Meaning you can't "horse" these fish in. Fishing for them usually involves a crowds so patience is a must as is a good attitude. Going during the week can help minimize crowds. There are a lot of great charters that can put you on spadefish out of Virginia Beach. Leave a comment and we can give a few recommendations if you need it.

Come along as we chase Yellowfin Tuna offshore of Oregon Inlet in the Outer Banks (OBX) of North Carolina. OI is right in the Nags Head area and is very easy to get too, but you will want an experienced captain to get you safely out and back into the inlet. This is something you can enjoy by grabbing a charter if you don’t have a boat (or the experience) and there is nothing quite like the blue water adventure of these great fighting (and DELICIOUS!) fish.
