2022 Plant-based Products to look out for

Saumya Garg

By force or by choice, if you are on the vegan train it can be hard to keep up with all the new products that flood the market every few weeks.

A Bloomberg Intelligence report predicted that the global market for plant-based food alternatives may reach USD 162 billion by 2030. And that’s just the plant-based ‘food’ segment. Don’t forget the plant-based cosmetics, vegan leather, vegan toothpaste and so on.

So here are some exciting plant-based product trends to look out for in 2022.

Vegan Eggs

Not new to the game, plant-based egg substitutes have been around for a few years. However, with the latest advances in product development, vegan egg substitutes will continue to be improved with respect to palatability, flexibility of use and a shorter list of ingredients. Allergen and cholesterol free, plant-based egg replacers will be a go-to for a lot of consumers.

Plant-based Skincare

If you are like me and super selective about what you put ‘on’ your body, I have news for you. Gone are the days when you had to worry about cruelty free products. Revolutionary vegan skincare products using algae and plant-based ingredients will become mainstream this year.

Vegan Fish

This one’s a personal favorite too. Driven by sustainability and a mission to save our oceans, companies such as Plantish are making real strides in putting plant-based fish on our plates. Expect to see some vegan fish fillets (yes, fillets!) on your local supermarket shelves soon.

Plant-based Shoes

Plant-based shoes are going to be BIG this year! With big brands entering the space, plant-based shoes are going to get a real boost in terms of consumer acceptance and adoption.

And here's the icing on the cake:

Plant-based Vaccines

If there's anything good that the coronavirus brought to the world, it is scientific growth. With a never-before seen influx of money in the industry, vaccine research has made some real progress real soon. Vaccine companies, Medicago and Baiya Phytopharm, will soon be launching Covid vaccines that are plant-based. This is incredible news for those who are unable to get vaccinated due to egg allergies.

If you know of some cool plant-based product that's going to be a game-changer, drop it in the comments and I will find out more for you!
