There are a ton of quaint shops celebrating all things local in Lancaster County, especially when it comes to independent bookstores. I've recently stumbled upon four of them that I find characteristic and that make for great places to get your holiday shopping done.

Books + coffee

The Caffeinated Bookworm is a locally owned independent bookstore committed to offering a wide selection of books for customers of all ages and backgrounds, as well as an assortment of writing and drawing materials. Their tiny, adorable shop is located inside Building Character, a place in Downtown Lancaster celebrating vintage, recycled, and handmade goods. They have about 70 independent shops located inside the brick building on North Queen Street.

The Caffeinated Bookworm also accepts trade-ins for credit. Only books in really good or better condition will be accepted, and they reserve the right to refuse any book for any reason.

This is the perfect spot to find a book you can enjoy with your morning coffee.

The bookshop at Prussian Street Arcade

If you haven't been to Prussian Street Arcade, you're in for a treat. Prussian Street Arcade is a 10,000 square foot market located in a bright and spacious building in the heart of Manheim Borough. They feature over 100 boutique makers and curators, and this place is an adorable marketplace to go if you're looking to buy those unique holiday gifts. They have everything from home goods and antique items to toys, apparel, and books.

The bookshop inside this marketplace offers great prices and they have a large selection of children's books. I've purchased several books for my kids here, and they're always a hit.

Aaron's Books

This is a local family bookstore located in Lititz. The owners, Sam and Todd opened Aaron’s Books in 2005 after moving to the area from Washington DC. The store is named for their son, Aaron. Aaron's Books started out as an all used shop up on Broad Street. Two years later they started carrying new books, and since then the independent bookstore has been expanding. In 2012 they moved to Main Street, which is where you'll find them today.

This is a community bookshop, and the owners are invested in the local community. For ten years, Aaron's Books sponsored and hosted a children’s literature festival. Each year they brought in over a dozen authors, including many award winners. The authors would visit schools, and spend the weekend leading workshops for young readers.

Vintage Young

Vintage Young, located inside Building Character, features a large selection of used books in their shop. They also have CDs, DVDs, small furniture, small collectibles, and local Lancaster County vintage items. You're likely to find more than just books when visiting this place!
