Backpacks and school supplies can be a financial struggle for many families in Pennsylvania. CrossNet Ministries, a faith-based non-profit organization located in New Holland partners with local churches, businesses, and the community to hand out backpacks and supplies to those who need them at the beginning of each school year. This year, they're hoping to collect and giveaway 600 backpacks and school supplies.

Proof of residency

Their giveaway event will be held on August 10 at CrossNet Youth Center located at 110 West Franklin Street, New Holland, PA. In order to receive free backpacks filled with school supplies, bring proof of Eastern Lancaster County School District residency. This program is available for those participating in the free and reduced lunch programs and those affected by Covid-19 in the Eastern Lancaster County School District.

If you're interested in donating backpacks and school supplies to this event, there are several ways of doing so, such as hosting a backpack and supply drive, or if you like shopping online you can check out their Amazon Wish List for specific items that are needed.

Clipper Stadium

For those living in the School District of Lancaster, Representative Mike Sturla’s 10th Annual Back to School Event will be held this year from Saturday, August 14 through Monday, August 16, in Lancaster Barnstormers’ Clipper Magazine Stadium located at 650 North Prince Street, Lancaster, PA 17603. The event will be held over three days of distributions to ensure proper social distancing.

This event is only open to Kindergarten through 8th grade students who live in the School District of Lancaster area. Registration is required and you must select a pickup day and time since no same day walk-ups will be allowed to ensure public health safety. Registration will close on August 9, 2021, and students must be present at pick-up.

This Back to School Giveaway helps Lancaster students start the school year off right. Students in grades Kindergarten through 8th grade who register for the giveaway will receive backpacks, school uniforms, shoes, and school supplies donated by the community.

Volunteer opportunities

If you'd like to volunteer at this event, there are several opportunities to do so. You can sign up through United Way of Lancaster County. It is possible to sign up for more than one volunteer shift, as there are multiple opportunities on multiple days. If you'd like to donate a backpack and school supplies, you can do so by following the instructions on their website.
