Milford, Connecticut, is about to come alive with the rhythms and melodies of Milford's Porchfest 2023. With a staggering 125 performances across 83 picturesque locations, this year's event promises an unforgettable musical experience.
Get ready to soak in the sounds of local talent on Saturday, September 9, from noon to 6 p.m., as porches and lawns transform into stages for a day of music, community, and fun.
An Early Summer Vibe
This year's Porchfest is making a change for the better. Organizers aim to extend the summer vibes by moving the event from its traditional October slot. Jeff Einig, the enthusiastic Porchfest Director, shares his excitement, "The night before the main event, we're hosting a kickoff extravaganza at Lisman's Landing.
Join us from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the soulful tunes of Hawkins French and the foot-tapping beats of Milford's favourite, the Rum Runners."
Giving Back to the Community
Porchfest isn't just about music; it's about giving back. Continuing their tradition from last year, the organizers are again collaborating with the Purple Pantry. They'll collect nonperishable food items and donations via Venmo to support this noble cause.
Jeff Einig emphasizes the importance of community involvement: "It takes a group of dedicated volunteers to bring Porchfest to Milford. This year, we have 18 passionate individuals on the committee, each contributing their unique skills to make Porchfest a reality.
Our mission this year is simple yet profound: to make Milford a better place, one note at a time."
Discovering the Zones
Milford Porchfest is divided into six distinct zones, each offering a diverse musical experience:
- Walnut Beach/Wildemere
- Silver Sands/Fort. Trumbull
- Downtown
- Point 2 Point
- Woodmont
This year, there's something special in store as the number of performances has surged by an impressive 20 per cent. Jeff Einig expresses his enthusiasm, "We were thrilled to see so many bands eager to join us; it far exceeded our expectations. Last year, we had 104 performances, and this year, we're featuring a whopping 125!"
Eclectic Music for All Tastes
Diversity is the key at Milford Porchfest. Jeff Einig explains, "We strive to provide a diverse musical experience that caters to everyone. From a fifth-grader leading a musical trio to seasoned musicians with decades of experience, we have it all."
Navigating the Event
To ensure attendees can easily explore all 83 locations in Milford, organizers are diligently working on a map. It will be accessible a few days before the event on their website, Facebook page, and Instagram. This way, you'll know exactly where to catch your favourite acts.
Short and Sweet Performances
One notable change this year is the limitation on performance duration to 90 minutes. Jeff Einig clarifies, "The essence of Porchfest is to encourage people to move between homes, meet new friends, and discover new music. The 90-minute performances allow for a dynamic, engaging experience."
Food Trucks and More
To keep the energy high, many zones are welcoming food trucks. Jeff Einig shares, "In my zone, we're excited to have an Italian Food Truck and an Ice Cream Truck. Everything, including the food trucks, the bands, and porta-potties, is set up on personal properties. It truly is a community effort."
Mark your calendars for September 9 and be part of the music extravaganza that is Milford's Porchfest 2023. With abundant performances, diverse genres, and a focus on community spirit, it's an event you will want to attend. Join us in making Milford a better place, one musical note at a time!
