I lived in Los Angeles for 15 years and had no idea these bizarre laws existed. Luckily I did not break any of them. Most outdated laws were made for specific cases but existed as laws.
Garages in Long Beach are for cars only. The law prevents homeowners from renting out their garages and creating garage apartments. However, with the price of living in California lately, I would be tempted to rent out my garage, but not in Long Beach.
In LA, washing your neighbor's car without permission is illegal. It is believed this law results from window washers on the streets while you are stopped at a stoplight and someone comes up to wash your window. This law prevents that from happening and makes you feel obligated to pay for the service.
No cursing on mini golf courses in Long Beach; Mini golf often attracts families, and if someone got a little too rowdy, a complaint could have been filed. Therefore, Long Beach city enforces a no-cursing while mini golfing law.
Women are not allowed to drive a vehicle while wearing a housecoat. This law is old and outdated. Do women still wear housecoats?
If you live in Blythe, it is illegal for you to wear cowboy boots unless you own at least two cows. The law was implemented to separate the real cowboys from the wannabe cowboys.
If you live in Palm Springs, walking your camel down Palm Canyon Drive is illegal between 4-6 pm. It sounds like you must avoid rush hour. Unsure if anyone owns camels in Palm Springs, possibly a very outdated law.
If you live in Glendale, jumping into or out of a moving vehicle is illegal. Again, a law that should make sense, and jumping out of a moving car is quite dangerous. However, it is also unlawful to drive in reverse in Glendale. Which also seems very dangerous.
If you live in Chico, bowling on sidewalks is illegal. Still trying to figure out how this ever came to be a law, but sidewalk bowling could cause some issues.
If you own an elephant in San Francisco, it is illegal to walk your elephant without a leash. However, you may walk once you leash up your big friend.
In San Diego, you must remove your Christmas light outside your home by February 2nd. A law that was made due to citizens concerned with light pollution.
Most of these laws have either been forgotten or need to be enforced. However, if one day you are at a stop light in LA and someone tries to wash your window, you now know that it is illegal and do not need to feel obligated to pay.
