Phoenix Sky Harbor recognized for Health and Safety efforts

PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport recently went through an Airport Health Accreditation held by the Airports Council International and successfully passed by accommodating all passengers a safe airport experience.

The accreditation demands a complete assessment of an airport’s cleaning and safety routines. Those routines are then compared against the industry international requirement.

Phoenix Sky Harbor was graded in several aspects: the availability of hand sanitizer, cleaning and disinfection, air circulation and ventilation and the application of touchless technology, among others.

“It gives me great satisfaction to be able to share with our customers, our business partners, and our employees that PHX is achieving among the highest standards in the industry when it comes to providing for a safe, secure, and healthy airport environment,” said Chad Makovsky, director of aviation services for the City of Phoenix.

The accreditation Phoenix Sky Harbor and other airports received this year has to be conditioned annually. In addition to this recognition, Phoenix Sky Harbor and Phoenix Goodyear and Phoenix Deer Valley Airports earned the Global Biorisk Advisory Council’s GBAC Star accreditation in March this year.

The GBAC facility accreditation shows a prestigious accomplishment in the cleaning industry. There are a few airports in the U.S with both ACI Accreditation and GBAC Star, and Phoenix Sky Harbor is one of them.

With more than $38 billion annual economic impact, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has roughly 1,200 aircraft and more than 125,000 passengers traffic every day. The Sky Harbor is self-funded and doesn’t use a single tax dollar.

“This simply would not have been possible without our amazing team at the City of Phoenix, particularly our Sky Harbor Facilities and Services staff,” said Makovsky.
