Philadelphia keeping eye on Omicron

  • The Philadelphia Health Department is currently monitoring COVID-19 cases in the city and helping federal health officials prepare for a potential spread of the new Omicron variant. No new health measures are being put in place yet, however Delta variant cases are beginning to rise post holiday travel. Omicron may be more transmissible than the Delta variant and may be more resistant to antibodies developed from both the vaccine and natural immunity.

Former Temple dean convicted in school-ranking fraud case

  • The former dean of Temple's Fox School of Business was convicted on fraud charges on Monday for his role in manipulating data to gain recognition as the number one online MBA program in the country. Moshe Porat was found guilty of deceiving potential applicants, students and donors into believing the school offered a top-ranked business program.

SEPTA aims for zero emissions

  • SEPTA is purchasing more hybrid diesel-electric busses in order to further the transit authority's effort to reach a zero-emission fleet. There are between 100-120 busses that have to be replaced every year as part of this process. The purchasing of electric busses began in 2019 with 25 fully electric vehicles but they had to be taken off the road quickly after due to structural concerns.

Holiday-themed bars and restaurants around Philly

  • As Philadelphians celebrate Chanukah this week the holiday season is officially upon us. It is a time for celebration and cheer as another tumultuous year winds down. Some restaurants and bars around the city are getting into the holiday spirits with decorations, seasonal music and themed cocktails.
