John Mayer is an American singer, songwriter, and guitarist, who was born on October 16, 1977, in Fairfield County, Connecticut. He attended Berklee College of Music in Boston for a time.
He moved to Atlanta in 1997 and formed a two-man band with Clay Cook. It was called Lo-Fi Masters. After they split up, Mayer played for local clubs where he gained a following.
He appeared at the South by Southwest Festival in 2000 and was signed to Aware Records before being signed with Columbia Records.
He won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance in 2003 for his single, "Your Body is a Wonderland." He earned a 2007 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
Mayer became fascinated with the guitar after watching Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly in Back to the Future. His father rented one for him when he was 13 years old.
He has had health issues and other challenges through his life. He has become an accomplished and popular musician.
