Going from the Avenues to the Capitol Hill area is possible
After what seemed to be a water main problem, repairs were begun on the upper part of Bonneville Boulevard not far from where the one-way road begins in the Avenues of Salt Lake City. The road has been closed for weeks while crews made repairs.
An accident occurred in the fall of 2021 when a car went over the cliff where the Avenues road ends. Then there was a section which needed repairs where the side of the road had eroded at the bottom of Bonneville Boulevard before it reaches the Capitol HIll area. Then the upper part needed repairs.
The road was closed for repairs but has finally reopened to vehicular traffic. It did remain open to foot traffic and bicycles during the period of repairing the road.
Cars may enter Bonneville Boulevard when they turn right where 11th Avenue going west ends. Turning right will take a winding canyon road which ends up at East Capitol Boulevard just above the Utah State Capitol. Turning left goes to downtown Salt Lake City.
Bonneville Boulevard is a one-way street which has one side restricted for bicycles and foot traffic. Joggers and walkers generally use that road quite actively. People walking dogs are often using the road. The other side is for cars and motorcycles. There are also trails along the hillside.
The top of the road is where cars enter from the Avenues. That was blocked off to cars while repairs were made. They exit the road just above the Capitol. The road is also the access for the City Creek Canyon area for hiking and picnics.
Now that Spring has arrived, the road and surrounding trails are very busy with bicyclers, walkers, joggers, adults, children, and dogs. Car are now able to once again travel on the road.
