The Musical Hadestown Will Play in Salt Lake City

Hadestown is a musical production which will have eight shows at the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Theater located in downtown Salt Lake City at 131 South Main Street.

The dates in the summer of 2022 are Tuesday, August 2; Wednesday, August 3; Thursday, August 4; Friday August 5; Saturday, August 6; and Sunday, August 7. Starting times vary, and there are matinees on the weekend.

The musical show of Hadestown is a new musical by singer-songwriter Anais Mitchell and director Rachel Chavkin. The story intertwines two mythical tales. One is of Orpheus and Eurydice. The other is of King Hades and his wife Persephone.

Hadestown is performed by actors, dancers, and singers who put on a vibrant show. The audience is captivated by the haunting and hopeful experiences of this musical production as well as the music.

Anais Mitchell wrote the music, lyrics, and book of Hadestown. The original version premiered in 2006 in the town of Barre, Vermont. Mitchell turned the musical into a concept album which was released in 2010.

Mitchell met director Rachel Chavkin in 2012. The two worked together on the stage production by adding songs and dialogue. The new version developed for the stage was directed by Chavkin. It premiered Off-Broadway in 2016. After productions in Edmonton and London, the show premiered on Broadway in March 2019. It opened to critical acclaim and received many awards and nominations.

Hadestown received fourteen nominations and won eight honors at the 73rd Tony Awards. They won for Best Musical and Best Original Score, among others.

The story and music have been entertaining audiences around the United States. They will be performing Hadestown in the coming months at various venues in New York, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, and California among others.

Attending the popular musical will be a treat for theater goers in Salt Lake City.
