Mark Michalko, the executive director of the North Carolina Education Lottery, expressed his joy for the Morris family's win. He emphasized the lottery’s positive contribution to the state, noting that in the last year alone, the lottery generated over $929 million for educational initiatives in North Carolina, averaging over $2.5 million per day.

Although Michalko had hoped the next Mega Millions billionaire would emerge from North Carolina, the record-breaking ticket, boasting a massive $1.58 billion jackpot, found its winner in Florida. The lucky individual has the option to claim a staggering $783 million payout, marking the largest jackpot in history.
