The soft bristles toothbrushes and ADA accepted (American dentist association) toothbrushes are specially designed to clean your teeth. The main thing that matters is the bristles of the toothbrush which are specially designed to clean your teeth and remove germs and plaque so if the bristles are frayed, their ends are splayed out, if they are worn out or disfigured, they won’t do the job they are assigned to as it won’t give you the optimum clean.

Which in fact is the most important factor which decides when to replace your toothbrush. If you look at your toothbrush every time you brush your teeth, you will automatically know about the condition of your toothbrush.

As recommended by dentists, you should be replacing your toothbrush every 3-4 months because the germs can hide inside your toothbrush bristles. So, even if you feel like your toothbrush bristles are perfectly fine and your toothbrush looks clean.

Microbes can be hiding inside the brush and you can’t properly sterilize that in your home. Some people use boiling water to clean their brushes. Yes, it can reduce the risk of penetrating bacteria inside the bristles to some extent but not completely.

Your toothbrush can be a source of flu virus, yeast fungus and many more diseases if you don’t replace it on time.

Technically, every time you are sick. You should change your toothbrush if you like to practice intelligent hygiene. No one wants that their toothbrush leaves infections.

And when you place such a toothbrush with other family members’ toothbrushes it can make them sick too. Norwalk Connecticut Dentists say that the bacteria on your toothbrush can stay longer than the virus do so even if you have taken proper medications, the bacteria can still exist even if you got well because cold and flu can survive on toothbrushes for more than 3-4 days.

Type Of Toothbrush

There are different types of toothbrushes available in the market these days like the manual one and the electric toothbrush. For instance, if you are using the electric one some of their brushes have specific instructions for replacement.

Some electric toothbrushes have fading reminders bristles within the toothbrush head. Some actual toothbrush handles can track your brushing and tell you when it’s the right time for you to change your toothbrush head. You need to follow instructions for replacing the toothbrush or the toothbrush head

Another few factor that tells you that it’s time for you to change your toothbrush is how you store it. If you keep the head of the toothbrush uncovered or if you store it near your toilet seat, it could catch germs and cause-effect on your health. Dentists in Norwalk recommend covering the head of your toothbrush after you use your toothbrush every single time.

Some people are extra careful about their hygiene and they may use their brush twice or even more in a single day so their brushes start to deteriorate more rapidly. In that case, they might have to replace their toothbrush more frequently.

Researches prove that no matter what type of toothbrush you use, new toothbrushes remove plaque better than older ones.
