Over the past year, my family has spent a ton of time in our backyard. This has caused us to rethink how we use the space and focus on turning it into a place we can really enjoy. It was time to finally drag our old broken patio furniture to the curb. After ten years of service under the sun, my table and chairs were done. Now, I’m not one to splash out on expensive, impractical things. I’ve got three kids and a budget to look out for. This is why, when I needed to replace my patio furniture, I turned to Facebook Marketplace to see if I could find a sturdy, affordable replacement.

While scrolling through the options, I stumbled across the listing for Alabama craftsman Mike Babcock of 205 Woodworks’ modern Adirondack chairs. His unique design looked as if it was practically made for the porch of my modern farmhouse. I messaged Mike on Facebook immediately and ordered two chairs. I also asked if he could make a matching farm table and benches to match. He could! After I sent over my desired dimensions for the table, Mike provided a price and timeline for delivery. Considering the quality, it was a steal!

A week later, Mike delivered my new patio furniture. Since the pieces would be sitting exposed to the elements on an uncovered patio, he had built them with treated lumber. He even took the time to round the hard corners and sand the wood to perfection. Because of their construction, we aren’t worried about the outdoor wear and tear. The chairs come unpainted, and it’s important to let the treated lumber “cure” or dry before staining or painting them. I haven’t decided on a color yet!

It was plain to see that Mike had taken great care to craft each piece. Everything fit together precisely. The Modern Adirondack chairs are as comfortable as they are sturdy, and I love the unique design. My husband and I enjoy sitting on the benches at the table and watching our boys play in the yard.

Mike comes from several generations of woodworkers, and he takes a lot of pride in his work! He launched his business this past year, during the pandemic, after years of working in diplomatic protection in Afghanistan. Stressful work, no doubt! His wife had encouraged him to come home and spend more time with his family doing something he really enjoys! Mike’s love of woodworking and attention to fine details certainly shows through. Business has been great!
