A North Carolina witness reports briefly watching a cube-shaped object that was visible in the sky during a lightning flash at 9:20 p.m. on May 16, 2023, according to testimony from the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC).

The witness and his wife were waiting out a strong storm with intense lightning. The two were sitting in the living room with the lights off. The wife had fallen asleep and the witness was watching distant lightning from the window.

“During one of the lightning flashes, the sky was lit for a period of about 4–6 seconds, and I witnessed a cube-like object above the tree tops between the lightning and myself,” the reporting witness stated.

The witness is not sure if the object was directly across the road in the treetops or if it was farther away in the sky and appeared as if it was close.

“But it was most definitely a cube shape soaring across the skyline. Black in color due to only seeing the shape, it had what appeared to be four sides, but appeared to tumble or rotate slightly.”

The witness report indicates that the object appeared to be moving very quickly. No lights were seen during the event.

The report included no images, filed on May 16, 2023, and released for public viewing on May 19, 2023. Witness quotes were edited for clarity. Please report UFO activity to NUFORC or the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).
