(Sacramento, Calif.) A man was arrested Wednesday morning after firing a gunshot at and a brief standoff with Sacramento sheriff deputies at a South Sacramento residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
At approximately 9:15 a.m. Sacramento Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on McKinley Avenue regarding an incomplete 911 call, according to a Sacramento Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.
The caller reported his son was shooting and requested that law enforcement be sent to the area.
Other callers said Juan Martinez reportedly shot at a neighbor’s residence and fired additional rounds into the air, the sheriff’s office claimed.
When deputies arrived, Martinez was inside a residence on the property by himself. Deputies learned Martinez had also assaulted a 68-year-old family member, who also lives on the property.
The Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Detail (SED) responded a short time later and attempted to call out to Martinez to exit the residence and surrender peacefully.
That’s when police said Martinez refused their commands and fired one round out of a rear window at a deputy and demanded that law enforcement leave.
There was a brief standoff after which Martinez was taken into custody by a Sheriff’s K-9 unit.
No deputies were reported to have been injured.
Martinez was charged with several felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon upon a peace officer and elder abuse.
No more information was available on the condition of the 68-year-old family member who allegedly was assaulted.
