The Spooky Yet Beautiful Side of Idaho | Caves Trail | Craters of the Moon

Hiking the Caves Trail in Craters of the Moon National Monument alone at sunset is one of the spookier yet beautiful things we have done in Idaho. We hiked this trail close to when the sun was setting and were amazed at both the stunning sky and fascinating lava tubes and lava flows all along the trail. The caves were great fun for our kids to explore, and had a creepy vibe with birds knocking over rocks inside which added to the hiking adventure. This easy 1.8 mile hike is highly recommended for anyone heading to Craters of the Moon National Monument since it is mostly paved with minimal elevation gain.
