The Spooky Yet Beautiful Side of Idaho | Caves Trail | Craters of the Moon

Hiking the Caves Trail in Craters of the Moon National Monument alone at sunset is one of the spookier yet beautiful things we have done in Idaho. We hiked this trail close to when the sun was setting and were amazed at both the stunning sky and fascinating lava tubes and lava flows all along the trail. The caves were great fun for our kids to explore, and had a creepy vibe with birds knocking over rocks inside which added to the hiking adventure. This easy 1.8 mile hike is highly recommended for anyone heading to Craters of the Moon National Monument since it is mostly paved with minimal elevation gain. We are a family of hikers based in Dallas that love to travel frequently in our RV. We are on the road as often as possible and enjoy discovering alpine lakes, slot canyons, natural arches, and other interesting landforms all over the U.S. and sharing our adventures with everyone. When we explore our state of Texas, we always try discovering new local places the whole family will enjoy. If you like hiking, camping, and photography related content, please follow us!
