The Downtrend in COVID-19 Cases: Going Back to The Pre-pandemic State

United States COVID-19 cases are decreasing, but it's not over yet. New cases significantly dropped half the number in August, and the United States will soon go back to pre-pandemic levels of travels and restrictions. Land borders will soon reopen to vaccinated visitors and they will be lifting the travel restrictions to several international destinations.

Vaccine-eligible students are in school for their in-person classes with no massive surge in Covid-19 cases; only that older students are forced to wear masks and face coverings. Preparations for the Halloween celebrations are so grand, like making up for the depressed trick-or-treat of the previous year.

Thousand other ways signal the winding down of the pandemic; however, no grand announcement was made over it as of yet. The Biden administration and the experts in infectious disease are not making definitive predictions about the end of this pandemic.

Even though the cases are dropping, people have no choice but to adapt to the persistent presence of the endemic. It is because the virus isn't going away and is now becoming part of the human environment. There could still be a surge in respiratory viruses, but they expect a modest increase in infections.

But according to Jennifer Nuzzo, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, it doesn't end yet, and people have stopped caring about it. And it only fades into the background of their lives, says Nuzzo.

But despite the downtrend, people could not be complacent about the virus as the delta variant took hold, according to Robert M. Wachter, chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of California at San Francisco. He also said that the situation is nearing a steady-state and getting better as it is.

And President Biden said the US is closer to independence from a deadly virus and gained the upper hand against it.
