After a forced closure during the pandemic, Denver's Public Library's main location has opened for the first time in 18 months.

However, parts of the library are still under renovation works. According to the library's website, a major renovation project supported by the Elevate Denver bond program began during the closure induced by the pandemic. The first phases of that construction work are still going on. This is why most areas of the facility won't be accessible to the public. The library will also be operating on a reduced schedule for the foreseeable future.

The new open hours for the Denver Public Library, according to the library's website will be Sunday to Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The curbside holds pick-up service will be available Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Limited access will be offered to the collection of The Central Library. Visitors will also be provided with computer and internet access and information desk services across the library's premises.

As the Central Library Administrator Rachel Fewell said in a recent interview-

“We are excited to be able to open our doors to the community. Things will definitely look and feel a little different since the building is under construction, but we hope the service and access we provide can bring some sense of normalcy to our visitors and community.”

This renovation work is the first time something like this is happening in the Central Library's since 1995. In other words, it's the library's first major renovation project in the last 26 years. The construction project and renovation works are expected to continue into mid-year 2022.
