San Diego is a town full of book lovers. This is apparent by how many beautiful bookstores and book cafes are all over the place, their shelves chock full of books spanning so many different genres. Some stores are so antique and unique, that they might hold you spell-bound for several hours.

This post discusses three of the most beautiful bookstores in San Diego you can lose yourself in on a cozy summer day.

La Playa Books

Hours: Tues.-Sun., 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

Located at: 1026 Rosecrans St.

Filled with old and new books, La Playa books is among the favorite haunts for book lovers in San Diego. Aside from this magnificent collection of books, the place is also widely loved for hosting heartwarming events like Wine and Conversation Book Club and New and Noteworthy Book Club. Of course, it's a great place to casually stroll in and pick up a book you love. But aside from that, it's a wonderful place to meet fellow book lovers and spend some quality time in the company of kindred souls.

Bluestocking Books

Hours: Mon.–Thurs., 11 a.m. –6 p.m.; Fri. and Sat., 9 a.m. –8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m. –5 p.m.

Where: 3817 Fifth Ave.

Another favorite of the locals, Bluestocking Books is famous for its widely varied and vibrant collection used books. The store is even deeply cherished because it lets you trade in your old books for store credits. Using those, you can purchase another book of your choice, and discover a new favorite. A reader's paradise, in the true sense of the word.

Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore

Hours: Mon. –Thurs., 10 a.m. –7 p.m.; Fri., 10 a.m. –8 p.m.; Sat. and Sun., 10 a.m. –5 p.m.

Where: 5943 Balboa Ave.

Doesn't the name itself make you want to go inside this mysterious galaxy and never be found again? The store houses books spanning several genres, but the regulars are more fond of the "darker" shades of fiction, like science-fiction, horror, gothic romance, fantasy, mystery, crime thriller, young adult, etc. The store is even more deeply loved because it houses bi-weekly book clubs where you can meet and greet fellow book lovers and fangirl over new books together.
