What Is Something That Sucks About Being a Man

The wave of hatred men have to face every time a crime against women gains attention from the media.

So, yes, I am not a man, but this is what I inferred after talking to a couple of male friends.

Whenever a case of crime against a woman gains public attention, men are made to feel like villains because of their gender.

  • Every woman they cross paths with on the Subway gives them dirty looks because they are a man.
  • Their female friends stop talking to them, telling them mean stuff like, “Why are all men pigs?
  • When they try reasoning that not all men are the same, and some genuinely respect women, they are met with looks of, “Are you that naive?”

My point is: rape isn’t a crime against women in particular. Rape is an assault on humanity. Several men have been victims of molestation and sexual assault too, and in most such cases, the one committing the act is a man himself.

As a woman, I think it is important for us to remember that not all men are the same. Also, it wouldn’t do us any good to vilify men and treat them with disrespect just because some criminals carried out an unforgivable crime.

In fact, when rape is considered, I don’t the debate should be a “men vs women one at all. Rather, it should be “people vs sex offenders”.
