A survey done by the American Heart Association in 2012 found that only 12% of Americans regularly practice healthy habits. Some of these healthy habits include good nutrition, exercise, and oral care. The good news from the survey is that 90% of Americans are in the mindset to improve their health. However, habits play a very important role.

Life is made up of habits. A change in habits leads to a change in life. Habits are the invisible architecture of everyday life. There are some habits you think to be good but are actually bad. There are some habits you think to be bad that are actually not that bad. Some habits are prevalent in society which makes many people think that they are alright to follow. However, these habits will deteriorate the quality of your life. A few of those bad habits you need to remove are as follows.

Compromising your sleep

A person suffers from crankiness and irritation when they suffer from a lack of sleep. According to health experts, a person should have at least 6 hours of sleep every day.

Sleep helps the body to refresh itself. An unhealthy sleeping pattern not only affects the immune system but the respiratory and digestive systems as well.

Being lonely

Loneliness is often not considered a serious issue, but it certainly is. Loneliness makes people prone to weight gain, depression, and heart diseases. There are also other side effects of loneliness like developing anxiety, emotional disturbances, and substance abuse.

To avoid the consequences that loneliness does to your health, try making good friends who listen to you to avoid being lonely.

Not exercising

Doing a sedentary job and sitting on a chair for many hours in a day is not good for health. In fact, sitting for elongated periods of time has many harmful effects on the body. A few of those harmful effects include weight gain, poor blood circulation, heart diseases, weakening of muscles, and diabetes.

To avoid this, make sure to move around a little between work hours. It will also help your health a lot if you manage to exercise at least once a day.

Not eating a balanced diet

Eating a balanced diet is very good for your health. A balanced diet helps the body to get all the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals required to be a healthy individual.

A failure to eat a balanced diet can lead to nutrient deficiencies, weight gain, diabetes, and various other diseases. The excessive consumption of meals rich in animal proteins, such as red meat, can cause cancer growth due to a hormone called IGFI1. To avoid this, include plants in your diet too.

Takeaway

There are many habits followed by people which may seem normal. However, they are not as normal as it seems. In fact, following those habits every day in your daily life can actually be harmful to your health. Always try to avoid the bad habits in your life as it will help you to enhance the quality of your life.
