California has a rent and utility relief program of $5.2 billion for the pandemic. More than $1 billion of aid got disbursed on July 14, 2021. The State has also allocated $2 billion to cover past-due water and utility bills for a total of 12 months.

The program aims at the renter with more than 80% of the area's median income. Landlords and renters can apply for the relief program. The State will directly pay the landlords. The State can cover 100% of unpaid utility payments that date back to April 1, 2020, or future payouts for a total of 12 months. Covid hit renters are eligible for the utility program.

Applicants should have the required documents for the rent relief, 2020 tax return, 2020 W2 or 1099-G if unemployed, Current pay stubs, and proof of participation in a state or federal subsidy program. If you are applying for utility relief, you need to have the utility invoices or statements and internet bills.
