Before you join the 47.9 million fellow motorists that the American Automobile Association predicts will be traveling 50 miles or more this weekend, think about heading over to the area between North Pinal Avenue and North Florence Boulevard just west of Interstate 10, where GasBuddy observers found lowest gas prices in the county.

Along North Pinal Avenue, a Circle K sells regular for $4.74, a Fastrip is at $4.75, and a QuikTrip and Fry’s have it for $4.79. Along East Florence Boulevard are two QuikTrip stations, a Fry’s, and an Arco at $4.75. A Safeway on North Trekell Road is at $4.77.

The average price in Pinal County Thursday afternoon, according to AAA, was $5.27, down from $5.53 two weeks ago. Maricopa County still has the state’s highest average price at $5.45. Greenlee County has the lowest average at $4.77.

Statewide, the average price was $5.22, down 16 cents from two weeks ago, the auto club said. GasBuddy observers on Thursday found the lowest price for regular, $4.39, at Sam’s Club in Bullhead City. Two weeks ago, the lowest price they found was $4.49 a gallon.

Arizona prices remain higher than the national average of $4.85 primarily because distribution costs are higher, AAA said. National prices tend to be lower in the southern tier of states where many of the nation’s refineries are located, and higher in the Northeast and West, where there are fewer refineries.

Overall, demand continues to drop, while supplies are increasing. As a result, the average price dropped another 4 cents nationally since Monday, after setting a record on June 14 at $5.01. AAA said. With the economy slowing, AAA says gas prices could drop more.

Arizona has seen one of the largest decreases since last week at 12 cents a gallon, behind Wisconsin and Delaware at 14 cents, and Indiana, Florida, and Ohio at 13 cents. Texas and Michigan also saw prices drop 12 cents.

If you are driving across country for summer vacation, AAA offers an app for Android and iPhone to find the best prices along your route. The GasBuddy app can pinpoint prices by city, county, and state.
