Mum Borrows Orange Cat So Kids Can “Have Dinner With Garfield”

A Garfield look-alike made a name for himself following an invitation to attend a lasagna “party.” The cat’s name is Tommy and he is a spitting image of the famous cartoon cat.

A mum, known as Clara Edwards, wanted to surprise her Garfield-loving kids and put out an ad asking to hire a Garfield lookalike for the event. Tommy fit the bill perfectly.

In the advert she promised that the cat would not be required to eat lasagna if contraindicated.

For those who don’t know about Garfield (you are surely in the minority) he is a “fictional cat and the protagonist of the comic strip of the same name. He is portrayed as a lazy, fat, and cynical orange tabby Persian cat who loves lasagna.”

The feline’s love of lasagna was the inspiration behind the dinner theme which was held in the fall of 2018, and still gets shared on social media platforms.

Readers on Twitter found Ms Edward’s actions adorable with many sharing images of their own Garfield impersonators. On Reddit Bryancomicsansej commented, “Just wait until she puts out an ad to borrow a talking dog for a spaghetti dinner with Scooby-Doo.”

In April 2023 Christi, the owner of the orange tubby, chipped in the comments adding, “The lasagna was actually homemade (by Chad, the dad) but Stouffers donated two frozen lasagnas and Clara wanted them to get their shoutout. And we both got a frozen lasagna to take home.”

She even shared the original photos from Scoopupworthy.com. Tommy was a good sport, and he seemed to enjoy being around the kids.

In an interview published by INSIDER Edwards explained that she was prompted to look for a cat to fulfill the wish of her oldest child. She said, “A lot of people actually think it was a birthday, but it was just for fun. Our oldest, Madison, just wanted to eat lasagna. We cooked her lasagna and she got sad because Garfield wasn’t there. That’s what really started it.”

Clara was happy that she was able to give her kids such a special night. She knows they’ll never forget it. If Garfield had come to join me for dinner as a kid I, too, would have been ecstatic.
