Warriors crush Magic as Wiggins conjures career high in 3-pointers
The Warriors bounced back Monday night beating the Magic 126-95 after a sluggish loss Saturday against San Antonio, East Bay Times reports.
With a record of 20-4, Golden State is now tied with Phoenix for first place in the west.
The Warriors capitalized on the Magic’s lagging defense, the fourth-worst in the league, with Andrew Wiggins taking advantage by sticking a career high of eight 3-pointers, breaking his previous personal best of seven 3-pointers against the Kings last January.
“Yeah, I’m in a groove,” Wiggins said. “I love my teammates. I love winning.”
Wiggins added a total of 28 points to the Warriors’ bottom line, going eight for 10 on threes, boosting his average to 42% up from 38% last season.
“The biggest thing I’m seeing from Andrew is that he’s just catching and shooting,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “He’s always been a pretty good 3-point shooter, but maybe more a little bit off the dribble. And the thing is he’s gotten better with us when he’s open, he’s just catching and shooting.”
“I’m just getting my shots up,” Wiggins said. “On this team you play with someone like Steph and Draymond, they’re going to get you open shots and extra looks. In my career, this is the most open looks I’ve gotten.”
Steph Curry got the ball rolling for the Dubs Monday after scoring 19 points in the first half, going four for five beyond the arc. Curry finished up the night with a total of 31 points and now trails Ray Allen by 16 3-pointers to break his record of 2,973 career threes.
Overall, the Warriors shot 50% on Monday, a season high for the team while racking up 20 3-pointers – one 3-pointer short of their season high of 21 made against Oklahoma City in October.
Jordan Poole also served up a season-high of seven assists while contributing 12 points.
Monday’s win marks the Warriors nine-game win streak against the Magic and also marks the team’s best start to a season since 2016-17 when the Dubs kicked things off with 24 straight wins.
