The Bridge Is a Mediterranean Oasis In the Heart of Scotland

When guests step into the lobby of Rusacks St. Andrews Hotel, they're met with a space that feels exactly like one would expect a resort at one of the world's greatest golf courses to feel.

There's an ornate fireplace, leather-bound books, dark-paneled walls, and posh furnishings that scream "Scottish manor house."

The property's signature restaurant, 18 -- which overlooks the iconic 18th hole of the St. Andrews Links Old Course -- has a similar aesthetic. The hotel's watering hole, One Under Bar, also pays homage to the traditional look of legendary golf clubs worldwide.

The third on-site dining option, The Bridge, however, offers a completely different decor style. It draws inspiration from Mediterranean locations like Italy and the French Riviera.

From the moment you walk in the door, The Bridge has a lighter, airier feel than the rest of the hotel, with white paneling and lush greenery dangling from the ceiling at every turn.

The Mediterranean inspiration extends to the seating areas.

Carrera marble tables and blue-and-white striped upholstery make you feel like you could be dining in Positano instead of St. Andrews, at least until you look outside at the stunning view of the North Atlantic.

Executive Chef Derek Johnstone and Head Chef Francesco Boto aim to "transport diners to sunnier climes" with seasonal menus that feature appetizers, vegetable and sharing dishes, fish and seafood, and meat and poultry sourced from a network of high-quality producers.

While we did not get to enjoy the current dinner menu during our recent stay at Rusacks, we loved the daily breakfast.

The morning menu includes local dishes like "The Bridge Full Scottish" and "Campbells & Co. Smoked Salmon" along with globally popular breakfast options like "Buttermilk Scotch Pancakes" and avocado toast.

The pancakes [below] were a particular favorite of mine -- light, fluffy, and with just the right measure of Scotch flavor.

The fresh fruit was also a standout for me, if you enjoy light fare at breakfast time.

Whether you choose to reserve a dinner table at The Bridge or you follow our lead and enjoy breakfast each morning, you won't be disappointed.

This gorgeous restaurant is truly a Mediterranean oasis in the heart of Scotland's golf country.
