Over the weekend, the "Princess Squad" and I indulged in a little bit of retail therapy at The Fashion Mall.

If you're an Indy-area local, you might already know that the northside's shopping mecca got a little bit more delicious this weekend with the opening of Doc B's Restaurant & Bar.

Originally a Chicago establishment, founded by restauranteur Craig Bernstein and named after his late father "Doc B," Doc B's now has nine locations, including its brand-new Indianapolis outpost. The restaurant prides itself on genuine hospitality and aims to provide diners with the same bedside manner for which the real Doc B was known as a physician.

If our experience this weekend was any indication, the team is hitting the nail on the head. We spontaneously snagged a lunch table, which ended up being one of our best decisions of the day (except, of course, for hitting the end-of-season Saks sale).

Doc B's has an extensive menu, featuring everything from the West Coast Steak Sandwich to Mission Style Street Tacos to a classic six-ounce Filet Mignon. My best friend and I both ordered the restaurant's trademarked "Wok Out® Bowls" [below]. They were delicious and I highly recommend trying one when you visit!

Doc B's has unique menus at each location, with a focus on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

While the food we tried this trip was fantastic, one of my favorite things about Doc B's is the vibe of the space. It's part art gallery -- check out the super cool drip paintings below -- and part upscale American diner.

Doc B's is the perfect combination of white tablecloths and a laid-back menu. It's certainly nice enough for a special occasion but we felt equally at home dressed down with two kids in tow on a Saturday afternoon.

My daughters, both veritable French fry connoisseurs, have asked when they can go back for more fries about 25 times.

Doc B's also offers a full bar, complete with two televisions, so you won't miss any big games.

I was immediately drawn to the red barstools. They're like a grown-up version of what you might find in a 1950s roadside diner.

I'm also a big fan of the entry hall that leads you into the restaurant's main dining room. As we were exiting, I took some time to look at all of the black and white photos lining the wall.

Each one pays homage to the Circle City. My favorite? A stunning shot of the legendary yard of brick at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

If you're looking to experience a slice of downtown cool on Indy's northside, don't sleep on Doc B's.

I know I'll be back soon for a night out, so stay tuned for details on Doc B's after dark.
