On Saturday, former President Donald Trump made a statement saying that he anticipates being arrested as part of an investigation into a hush money arrangement with Stormy Daniels. He also urged his supporters to protest against any such move.

Trump made this announcement in a social media post, where he referred to himself as the "leading Republican candidate and former president of the United States" and mentioned Tuesday of next week as the possible date of his arrest. However, he did not give any reasons for his prediction, and his team denied receiving any notifications from prosecutors.

Similar to his calls to supporters following the 2020 presidential election, Trump has called for action, asking people to "protest, take our nation back." Several people briefed on the matter have disclosed that the former president is trying to incite his supporters, and he believes that an indictment would benefit him politically.

An indictment of the former president, who is seeking reelection in 2024, would be a historic first and significantly change the political discourse surrounding a highly divisive figure. Although Trump has faced numerous civil lawsuits both before and after his presidency, a criminal charge would represent a major escalation in his legal troubles as he attempts to regain control of the White House.

According to an insider source, another witness is expected to testify before the grand jury investigating the hush money payments on Monday. It is unclear if this will be the final witness before the grand jury votes on whether to indict. Trump's legal team has been preparing for the possibility of an indictment and is anticipating that it may happen soon.

In a statement to CNN, Trump's lawyer, Joe Tacopina, explained that the former president's response was based on press reports because no one has informed them of anything, which is frustrating. Trump's spokesperson also said that he has not received any notification of a potential indictment but has been asserting his innocence.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, previewed a possible defense line from his party by tweeting that any indictment of the former president would be an "outrageous abuse of power" by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office. Mike Pence, who served as Trump's vice president, echoed McCarthy's sentiments, claiming that the investigation was politically motivated.

According to a source familiar with Trump's thoughts, the former president privately believes that he is being indicted because Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg "hates him." The Manhattan District Attorney's Office declined to comment on the matter.

Former US President Donald Trump is facing the possibility of indictment by a grand jury in New York City, which has caused him to plan various scenarios and consider hiring a TV-friendly lawyer. Some members of his legal team have advised him to request a remote appearance for security reasons, while others suggest he make a statement at the courthouse. Law enforcement officials are concerned about the potential for protests and clashes between Trump supporters and anti-Trump protesters outside the courthouse.

If indicted, Trump is expected to surrender and go through the usual processing and arraignment procedures at the courthouse, which could be expedited to get him in front of a judge immediately.
