Why is the AFC so inconsistent?

Mailbag question: Thomas: I would really want to know your opinion on why this season is so inconsistent with the strength of the teams especially in the AFC. Good teams struggle after a blowout, bad teams glance against top contenders. The standings are going up and down. What you think is a reason for this? #InsaneVoice
