How High Achievers Enjoy Wasting Their Time

Most high-achievers, change-makers, and world class performers do NOT spend their time on anything that isn’t valuable to them or to their mission.

The biggest difference between the highly successful and the average person is that people who succeed at higher levels understand that how they spend their time determines the future they create.

I've studied highly successful people closely and over the last couple of years, I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with and be mentored by two millionaire entrepreneurs. Their names are Gerard Adams and Ryan Blair.

This has given me inside access as to how these conscious high achievers spend their time and on what.

Here are some common threads that I discovered:

1)They Love Self-Education

Highly successful people make it a habit and priority to educate themselves everyday. Whether it’s through books, audio, practice or watching videos, it gets done.

These individuals strive to grow in each area of their lives. These different areas of life include mindset, physical, financial, relational, spiritual, personal and business/career.

By educating yourself on how to succeed in the most important areas of life, you set yourself up to succeed today and in the future. If you’re struggling in a certain area of your life, you should be able to find the answers to your questions online or in a book.

As the great Tony Robbins says "progress equals happiness." True joy and fulfillment come from knowing that we are making progress in our lives. When we aren't striving to better our situation, we begin to feel stuck, lost, uncertain, and frustrated. The best thing we can do is study ourselves.

Start thinking about the future you desire to experience and answer the questions below by yourself in a journal preferably. If you don't have a journal, you can use a google doc. My advice is don't hold back, dream big and write down everything that comes to mind.

Where do I want to be in life in the next five years?

What skills or habits would I need to develop to accomplish my five-year vision?

Who has accomplished what I desire to accomplish so I can study their habits?

Spend your free time learning how you can begin taking action and making progress in your life. If you dedicate an hour of your time to personal growth daily, you will achieve your desires.

The longer you wait to educate yourself about something, the longer it takes for you to succeed in that area. You can become anything you want by growing effectively and deliberately towards your goals. Don’t expect to grow if you're not ready to change your habits and behaviors.

If you want more out of life, then you must become more yourself. For things to change, you must change. For things to get better, you must get better. As Einstein observed:

“We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that created them.”

2)Energy Management

The secret sauce to longevity, having remarkable energy, superhero focus, feeling extremely grateful and happy is by taking care of your physical and mental wellness which go hand in hand.

To give you some context, I used weigh about ninety pounds heavier than I am today. I was over-weight most of my life. Then, I had a physcial my junior year of highschool that changed my life.

The doctor said that I was pre-diabetic and at risk of developing type 2 diabetes because of my dad's family history and being overweight wasn’t going to help that. Making my health a priority has been the smartest decision I've ever made because my health gives me the energy I need to accomplish my goals.

Steve Jobs was arguably one of the greatest visionaries of our time but his health stopped his progress at just the age of 56.

Robin Williams was one of the funniest people of our time who brought joy and laughter to the world but neglecting his mental health and battling depression leading him to take his own life in 2014. May both of these great souls rest in peace.

The lesson here is don’t wait until you develop a disease or disorder, to begin making changes in your health. Both of the entrepreneurs I've worked with have gone down the traditional hustle route but they both ended up burning out and feeling unhappy even with millions of dollars in their bank accounts.

Becoming the healthiest version of yourself is the best decision you can make. Of course, it will take self-discipline and commitment to change. Honestly, change became a MUST for me because I was scared that if I didn’t change, I was going to die at a young age.

You need to convince your mind that being healthy is the most important part of being human and if you don't pay attention to it, it will catch up to you in the future. No one wants to be in their fifties or sixties drinking pills breakfast, lunch, and dinner just because you didn’t take your health seriously early on.

3)Stress Management

The world is constantly challenging our lives from moment to moment. Some of these things we can control like The key to reaching higher levels of success in your life is going to be determined by your ability to adapt to obstacles and make great decisions. The truth is, stress is inevitable. It's apart of being human.

From my experience as a licensed massage therapist, I can assure you that most people are chronically stressed out and don't even know it. Some symptoms of chronic stress include muscle pain, low energy, fatigue, feeling not in control, headaches and anxiety.

Sustaining happiness and optimism can be accomplished by making sure you’re heathily managing your stress and not letting your emotions get the best of you. High-stress levels when not paid attention to can lead to chronic stress which makes us feel overwhelmed and it drains our energy.

Between running a small social media business, massage practice and blogging, it can be pretty stressful at times. That's why I've adopted multiple wellness habits that allow me to remind calm when the storm comes to help me stay grounded and focused.

My top tools and recommendations for stress management are:

  • Exercising
  • Journaling
  • Meditation
  • Laughing
  • Yoga
  • Massage
  • Box breathing
  • Watching inspiring videos or listening to positive music

Choose two tools off this list you can begin practicing to begin lowering your stress levels so you can have more mental clarity. The methods that work best for me are exercise, journaling, and meditation.

Meditation has been the real game changer for me. If you aren't meditating already, please start.

I started my meditation practice a few years ago to let go of the worry, guilt, and shame I felt after my mom passed away from her battle with cancer. That event left me in a dark place for about a year after her death and meditation was one of the tools that helped me heal and grow from that experience.

Many people who meditate, meditate as soon as they wake up (including me) because we don’t want old thinking and emotional patterns from the past to pop up and put us in a bad state first thing in the morning.

Meditating as soon as you wake up trains your mind to be in a state of calm and peace instead of stressing about things that haven't happened yet or things from the past. Just 5–10 minutes of meditation can have a massive positive impact on the rest of your day.

Over the last couple of years, many entrepreneurs and tech start ups have adopted meditation in their companies and daily lives. If you want to be a high performer in life, you have to learn how to remain calm under pressure and how to make decisions when it's difficult.

Ideas To Remember

If you want to change your life, it starts with you. It starts with you educating yourself on the actions you need to take to improve your life. Now, to take consistent action, you'll need to have great energy levels so you perform at your best. Make your health a priority and managing your energy will be much easier. And lastly, life is too short to be stressed all the time. Laugh at yourself every once in a while.
