There are just tons and tons of fun things to do in New York City, especially in the summer. However when most people think of fun summer activities in the city their minds immediately go to Manhattan. Whether it’s restaurants, hanging out in central park or visiting museums, Manhattan definitely has a ton to do! However, there is so much more to New York City than just Manhattan. I will say as someone who lives in Manhattan I definitely forget just how many fun things there are to do in the outer boroughs, but I am definitely trying to branch out more this summer.
So I figured why not make a list of some super unique and fun things to do this summer that aren’t in Manhattan. Like I said there’s so much to do outside of Manhattan, so I will most likely be writing a follow up (or several) to this article that focuses on other boroughs - but this article will be focusing on things to do this summer in Brooklyn! Brooklyn is such a hip and cool place, and I know there are just so many cool things to do there. I will definitely be spending lots of time there this summer!
Visit The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens
A perfect way to spend your day is by taking a stroll through the beautiful botanical gardens in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens aren’t only huge, but so beautiful as well! The gardens are the perfect place to walk around, learn some interesting history and get some photos of the gorgeous blooms!
Enjoy a Beach Day Coney Island
And of course a must do in the summertime - Coney Island. There is so much to do at Coney Island, whether you like to chill at the beach or ride amusement park rides, there is definitely something for everyone at Coney Island!
Have a Picnic in Prospect Park
Just like Manhattan has Central Park, Brooklyn has Prospect Park. Prospect Park is a great place to spend the day! You can walk around, have a picnic, visit the zoo, go on some fun hiking trails, visit the Prospect Park boathouse and more! I know I for one love going to parks in the summer, because they are always so much fun AND budget friendly!
Walk The Brooklyn Bridge
And if you live in Manhattan like I do, then taking a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge is a great summer activity! I love walking across the Brooklyn Bridge because you get the BEST views of the city and the bridge itself is so gorgeous too! Then when you get across the bridge you can spend some time exploring Dumbo, which is such a cool area with tons of cool restaurants and bars to hang out in.
Have Rooftop Drinks at Westlight
One of my all time favorite rooftop bars in the entire city is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn - it’s called Westlight and it’s on the 22nd floor of the William Vale hotel. This place is not only gorgeous, but they have incredible food and drinks, AND their views of the Manhattan skyline are unmatched! I love to go here at sunset because it just can’t be beat!
Go Vintage Shopping in Williamsburg
And if you are anything like me and love shopping - don’t worry because Brooklyn is full of amazing shopping! Williamsburg is just filled with boutiques and vintage shops. You could easily spend the entire day popping in and out of shops and wandering around exploring the neighborhood!
Do a Tasting at the Brooklyn Brewery
And lastly - take a tour and do a flight tasting of some delicious beer at the Brooklyn Brewery! There is nothing more fun in the summertime than sitting outside drinking beer and eating some delicious foods with friends and family!
