For those of you who don’t know me, I’ve been a blogger for about 5, almost 6 years now. Which, not gonna lie is crazy to think about. Now I haven’t been blogging consistently throughout the last 5 years, I started a blog in 2015, that I was super inconsistent with and then I stopped blogging altogether for almost a year before I created my latest blog, Rachel On Trend. And while I haven’t always been a consistent blogger on even my newest blog, I think I’ve definitely grown a lot as a blogger and created an online presence, that (hopefully) provides value to my followers.

I originally started blogging because I loved fashion. I wanted a place to share styling tips and my own personal style with the world. Now my blog has become so much more than that, and I absolutely love what it’s become. I don’t only just share fashion, but beauty, lifestyle, blogging and social media tips, snippets of my real life and more! This blog has become so much more than I originally thought it would be.

I know it’s 2021, and it may seem like the art of blogging is dead, or that no body reads blogs anymore, but I can tell you first hand that’s just not true. Not only do I read blogs all the time, but I also have lots of people reading my blog as well. So I can say first hand people still read blogs, and blogging isn’t dead. So since blogging is still relevant in 2021, I thought I would share my favorite benefits of blogging and why you should start a blog too. Whether you’ve been thinking about it for a while, or never thought about it until now - here’s why I think you should start your own blog in 2021.

A Fun Creative Outlet

First and foremost, a blog is such a fun and creative outlet or hobby to take up. I essentially started my blog as a hobby, and while it’s grown into much more than just a hobby or creative outlet, I still really enjoy the creative aspect of creating blog posts, taking pictures and videos!

Earn Money

Now when you first start a blog, you probably won’t be making a ton of money, I still (even after 5 almost 6 years of blogging) don’t make a ton of money. But I do however make a nice little side income for myself through my blog. I know some people who have even managed to make enough money to make blogging their full time job, which is just amazing! By blogging you can make money through affiliate marketing, sponsored posts, and ad revenue.

In addition to making money, you can also receive gifted and pr products from some amazing brands, which I know bloggers and content creators always say “gifted products don’t pay the bills”. Which is true, but as some one who still has a full time job and does blogging part time, I can honestly say that I love getting gifted products. So while it’s not cold hard cash, you are saving money, especially if it’s a product that you already use or a brand that you love. And of course receiving gifted pr products is a great way to build relationships with brands that could turn into paid collaborations or sponsored posts one day!

Share Your Expertise

Like I Mentioned before I started my blog to share my fashion expertise and styling tips with the world. If you are passionate about something and an expert in the field why not share your expertise with the world! Whether it’s fashion, or makeup tutorials, cooking, or tips on being a parent. If you feel like you have valuable information that would help others, starting a blog is a great way to get yourself out there and provide valuable content to others who could really use your help.

Meet New People

Creating a blog is also a great way to meet new people who share the same interests as you! I can’t even begin to count how many people I have met through blogging. And not even just people I’ve met, but people I’ve become great friends with through blogging! I’ve met people from all of the US and all over the world. I’ve also met bloggers who love in my area, who I’ve actually met up with in person and become good friends with.

Even if you don’t think you really want or need to meet new friends right now, I can tell you that connecting with other people who have the same love for fashion, or cooking, or dogs, or whatever it may be, is one aspect of blogging that I never really expected, but I am so glad that I got to experience it!

Improve Your Writing (And Possibly Photography)

When I started my first blog back in 2015, I have to say I was a pretty terrible writer. Not because I didn’t contain the necessary skills to be a good writer, I just never really spend any time writing, so I was definitely out of practice. Writing a blog has definitely helped me hone in my writing skills because, well I’m writing new blog posts every week, several times a week. I feel like each of my blog posts is better than the last, because writing is one of those skills that improves the more you practice it!

In addition to writing more and becoming a much better writer I’ve also improved my photography tremendously! I look back to the first couple of photos I took for my very first blog post and they are so cringe. Even now, while my photography (much like my writing) isn’t perfect it’s leaps and bounds above where I started. I am so proud of the photos I post now, whereas before I just had the attitude “eh... this will do”. Now I think my photography is so much better and I’m always happy with the content I produce.

Build An Online Brand / Start Your Own Small Business

If you’ve been thinking about starting you own small business, a blog is such a great way to do that. Whether your business is going to be the blog itself, or you have something else in mind, creating an online presence will help you get your name out there and help potential customers discover you and your business!

Create Opportunities For Yourself

And last but certainly not least, starting a blog is a crest way to create new opportunities for yourself. Whether it’s just meeting new people, or working with your all time favorite brand. So many of these things would be incredibly difficult if it weren’t for an online presence and a blog to facilitate amazing new opportunities for you!
