There's nothing quite like comfort food. It's filling, it tastes good and it reminds you of meals you've had in the past or if you're eating it now, meals that you know you'll remember. So here are the three best places in Coeur d'Alene to get some comfort food.
Meltz takes comfort food very seriously, but adds in some fun twists. For example, there is even a secret menu at Meltz, but you have to sign up for their email list to get it. I'd say that's pretty incredible marketing. The American Ooze sandwich has a weird name but it's got a fantastic combination of flavors. It includes american, sharp cheddar, monterey jack, and swiss cheeses. You haven't lived until you've tried a grilled cheese like this! The award-winning Ultimate Meltz sandwich has a unique twist: it has white cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, fontina, goat, and gorgonzola cheeses. You quite simply can't go wrong with a grilled cheese here! Top it all off with a Hope's "all-butter" large 4 oz, fresh baked chocolate chunk cookie. You might need a nap, but you'll be patting your stomach talking about how good the food was.
Midtown Bluebird is a small, locally owned, chef-driven restaurant that specializes in fresh, creatively prepared food that showcases the quality of what goes onto the plate. When you eat here, you'll taste the quality! It's comfort food with a creative twist. For example, the pork tenderloin is an oven-roasted Snake River Farms Kurabuto "Black Hog" tenderloin, that comes with braised baby bok choy, and apricot hazelnut reduction. That's the kind of meal you won't forget! The shrimp and grits comes with shrimp, tomato-jalapeño polenta, smoked gouda shrimp bisque, pico de gallo, and cilantro. Just listing those ingredients out makes my mouth water. Each bite is like an explosion of flavor!
Izzy's has comfort right in the name and for good reason. Just listen to what the Izzy's Chicken dinner includes! It has Sweet-tea brined bone-in chicken, dredged in buttermilk, house-seasoned flour and then it is fried crisp. Next it the chicken drizzled with Izzy's sweet heat sauce, served with house cornbread and seasonal vegetable. Yes please! Sweet-tea brined chicken? It's every bit as amazing as you think it will be. The mac and cheese is elbow pasta with house cheese sauce, smoked bacon, topped with an herb crumb, and pickled red onions (gluten-free) served with house or Caesar salad. The small creative twists Izzy's makes like the herb crumbs and pickled red onions make a great meal even more memorable and fantastic.
There you have it! Those are the three best places to get comfort food in town. Have you ever eaten at these locations?
