Collier County officers wrapped up a comparatively quiet week, with 95 arrests for the week ending Sunday, November 21st according to public records. In total, this figure represents 44 fewer arrests than the prior week, or a 31.65% decrease overall. The number is also far fewer than the 119 arrests reported for the same period (November 15th - 21st) last year, in 2020.
The busiest day of the week was Wednesday, the 17th, with a total of 19 arrests that day. Surprisingly, it was the usually busy Saturday that represented the slowest day for officers, having only 7 arrests throughout the day.
While the weekend may have been slower than what is typical, its reputation for alcohol-related incidents continues unscathed. 63.15% of arrests on Saturday and Sunday were for offenses related to alcohol consumption. These made up almost all of Saturday's activity, with six of the day's seven arrests for DUI offenses.
Among the arrests this week was a higher-profile case that caught the attention of many in the local area. A local 35-year-old bookkeeper for several businesses in the area was arrested and charged with embezzling over half a million dollars between the three entities, one of which was a charitable foundation. The woman was arrested Tuesday, the 16th, and released on bond the same day.
In even more bizarre news of the "only in Florida" variety, a local couple has made international headlines for filming themselves performing a sex act in the back of a Collier County cruiser. Yordan Noa and Summer Watkins, both 24, were initially pulled over for a minor license violation. After taking advantage of some unrestrained alone time in the back of the cruiser, the duo has now added lewd behavior, indecent exposure, and disturbing the peace to their charges.
The holiday season formally kicks off next week. Unfortunately, this often leads to increased incidents of domestic disputes and alcohol-related offenses. Officers could have their work cut out for them in the weeks ahead.
