PLAINVIEW, NEW YORK - A 26-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the hospital after a serious crash on the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway near Exit 10 late Friday morning.
Nassau County Police say that the fatal crash occurred in the northbound lanes of the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway, just south of Old Country Road, at 9:08 AM on Friday.
Police say a 2007 Infinity sedan, driven by a 26-year-old woman, was involved in a collision with a white 2017 Honda CRV. The woman was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries, where she was pronounced dead by hospital staff.
The driver of the Honda, a 68-year-old woman, suffered only minor injuries and is currently in a stable condition.
The impact of the collision was so powerful that an engine block and wheel axle from one of the vehicles involved could be seen sitting in the middle of a lane of traffic.
The northbound lanes of the highway were completely shut down for numerous hours following the crash while police investigated. All southbound lanes remained open.
The cause of the collision was not made clear.
