Today marks the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, which has seen immense success with Persona 5 Royal and its Western release in 2020. As part of their celebration, Atlus has released the best-reviewed game of 2022, Elden Ring. But how does this game stack up against the one that took over its throne? Let’s take a closer look.
A Brief History Of 20 Years Of Persona.
It was released in 1996 and became a Japanese cult hit. Since then, its popularity has grown with each new release, culminating in Persona 5 in 2016. The development of Persona 5 Royal has taken years and has been delayed many times. It is finally out this year, giving it a chance to compete with the likes of The Legend of Zelda. Persona 5 Royal has now surpassed Elden Ring as the best-reviewed game of 2022, according to Metacritic.
How It Started With Persona 3.
Persona 3 is a JRPG game with turn-based combat. The story follows a male high school student who moves to a rural town in Japan and attends Yasogami High School. As a new student, he becomes friends with several other students at his school, including an attractive girl named Chie Satonaka who continues to pursue him. The protagonist also has the ability to enter an alternate dimension called The Midnight Channel, which shows people's desires, and he is often asked by residents to help them through these events. Because of this unusual power, he soon becomes involved in solving strange incidents in his town that are somehow related to what happens on the show.
A New Beginning With Persona 4 Golden.
I was never a fan of the Persona series until I played Persona 4 Golden. I went into it not knowing what to expect, but found myself immersed in this game's wonderful story and cast. The game follows a high school student who moves to a small town with his uncle and little sister after their parents are killed in an accident. You take on the role of the protagonist, who is known only by his school name: Yu Narukami. He quickly befriends Yosuke Hanamura, Chie Satonaka and Kanji Tatsumi during his first day at Yasogami High School, in addition to meeting other characters that help you face various challenges such as Teddie, Margaret, Nanako Dojima, Rise Kujikawa and Adachi Masao.
Moving Forward With Persona 5.
It's unclear what Atlus plans to do with Elden Ring, but it is likely that they will continue to support Persona 5. There are already hints in Persona 5 Royal that there are more titles coming from this 25th anniversary. We may not be able to predict the future, but one thing is for certain: Atlus knows how to create a good RPG and we're excited to see what they have in store next.
What do you think? What are your thoughts on both games? Let us know! As always, thank you so much for reading and happy gaming!
The Climax With Persona 5 Royal.
In 2020, Persona 5 Royal was released in the West and earned itself a 95 Metacritic score. As part of the 25th anniversary of Persona games, this game is a remake of Persona 5 but with new content. The story follows Ren Amamiya, who is falsely accused of homicide and sent to Tokyo's Shujin Academy by the Japanese government to find their Persona. Once they have that power, they can get their revenge on everyone who wronged them. Alongside their friends at Shujin Academy, you'll face off against enemies from within and outside your school. You'll meet some familiar characters from Persona 3 and 4 too!
Where We Are Now.
The following year, Persona 5 Royal was released in the West, earning itself a 95 Metacritic score. The Western version was riddled with bugs and glitches that were fixed in later patches, which helped it rise up to be one of Atlus' best games.
Just last month, The Legend of Zelda: Elden Ring was released in North America to mixed reviews. While many praised its combat system and visuals, there were also complaints about its story and uninspired dungeons. As a result, Elden Ring lost its title for being the best reviewed game of 2022 to Persona 5 Royal.
